The most interesting thing that I learned from the ranger was that regular visitors could find and report fossils for the rangers to sometimes dig up. One more interesting thing that I learned was that a visitor in 1990 discovered a few bones that turned out to be a bone pit with many, many, many bones.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is interesting that Rhinos and Horses are related because it is so hard to believe that they could be closely related.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot from the Skype with one of the rangers from Badlands National Park. One of the things I learned was that the water was really shallow 75 million years ago, I also learned that a coyote's skull is gigantic compared to a Prairie dog's skull. I am so happy, since we were able to make this Skype, and I look forward to our next Skype.

ReplyDeleteThe most important thing I thought was about Badlands National Park was that I had no idea that the Badlands National Park had one of the first dogs so I was surprised that they had it. That was the most important thing I thought was about Badlands National Park. I thought it was the most interesting because it means that is my dog's ancestor was that dog.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting thing I learned about Badlands National Park is that all the rock formations have traces of ash from extinct volcanos located in the Rocky Mountains. The reason why I find it interesting is because I thought each formation is made out of one type of rock.

ReplyDeleteI think the most interesting thing that the Badlands Ranger told us is that it took 15 summers to dig in an enormous pile of bones. A pile bones must be many miles deep to be that large and nobody would have thought of it. And to think that a visitor discovered it.

The other thing that I thought was interesting was that it took 15 summers to dig out fossils from one huge bone pit. I can't believe that a visitor found one fossil that lead to a BIG bone pit!

ReplyDeleteI think the most interesting thing that I learned was that when a visitor came in the 1990's they at found some bones and reported them and the ranger later on actually found out that it was a pit filled with bones ant it took about 15 summers to dig!!!!

To me the coolest thing I learned while Skyping with the Badlands park ranger was that the tallest peak in Badlands is 1,000 feet high and also that he has a fossil of a rhino's face
ReplyDeleteI think the ammonite fossils were the most interesting thing that the Badlands Ranger told us about. The first interesting fact is that a squid is inside the shell. The second interesting fact is that they went extinct with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago! The final interesting fact is the ammonite started out as plankton.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting thing I heard today was that the Badlands National Park can go up to 700-1000 ft. This was interesting because I thought that the Badlands National Park could go up to 500-600 ft. tall, and I learned a new thing today

ReplyDeletethe sea 75 million years ago was 400 ft deep. I find this interesting because I thought that the sea was only 50 - 200 ft deep but is 400 ft deep.
The most interesting fact that I learned in the skype with the ranger from Badlands National Park is that you can only keep a fossil from an animal if it doesn't have a backbone but if it does you have to leave it behind.

ReplyDeleteI think the most interesting thing I learned today at the skype was that the first prehistoric dog was super tiny. I find this interesting because I thought the dog's ancestors were the wolves and I also thought its ancestors were big. When I looked at the skull I was really surprised how tiny it was so I know now that the dog’s ancestor is not a wolf, it is a tiny dog.
ReplyDeleteI think the most interesting fact we learned from the park ranger was that one pit of fossils took fifteen summers to dig. I also thought it was cool to see and learn about the different kinds of fossils. I also had no idea that the Badlands was covered with water 75 million years ago.

ReplyDeleteI wasn't here for the Skype. I wish I was there. A few things I learned from my friends is that the dogs about 10,000 years ago were way more tinier than the dogs today. Also that if you found an animal fossil without a backbone you would have to leave it behind.

After that they started digging and there was more and more fossils under the ones above it. It took fifteen summers to dig and there was 9,000 fossils there if I remembered correctly.
